1. Introduction

Pearlcity LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Faithpen mobile application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use Faithpen.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Faithpen is designed with a privacy-first architecture — your writing projects, entries, photos, and faith tradition preferences are stored exclusively on your device.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Stored On Your Device

The following data is created and stored locally on your device only using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not have access to this data and it never leaves your device except as described in Section 2.2.

Writing Projects & Entries: The sermons, devotionals, reflections, prayers, and other writing you create
Photo Attachments: Images you choose to attach to a writing entry from your photo library
Faith Tradition Preference: The tradition you select (Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox) to tailor writing assistance
Writing Calendar Data: Your writing dates and streak history
App Preferences: Your settings, onboarding status, and AI usage counters
Subscription Status: Whether you have an active Pro subscription (managed by Apple)

2.2 Information Sent to AI Services

When you use Faithpen's AI writing assistance (devotional prompts, continue writing, scripture suggestions, tone check, rewrite & polish, or outline generation), the following data is sent to Google's Gemini AI service for processing:

Your Writing Text: The text content you are working on, or the topic/theme you provide
Faith Tradition Context: Your selected tradition, so suggestions match your context
Assistance Prompts: Instructions describing what type of writing help to provide

        Important: AI processing is only triggered when you explicitly tap an AI assist button, and only
        after you have agreed to the in-app AI data consent screen. Your writing is never sent to external services
        automatically. The AI service processes your request and returns results — it does not store your writing content.
    

2.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to:

Your name, email address, or contact information
Your location data
Your device identifiers or advertising IDs
Your browsing history or app usage analytics
Your contacts or calendar
User accounts — Faithpen does not require sign-up or login

3. Photo Library Access

Faithpen requests photo library access only when you choose to attach a photo to a writing entry, using Apple's standard photo picker. Photo access is used exclusively for attaching images you select. We do not:

Access your photo library in the background
Scan or analyze your photo library
Upload your photos to any server (attached photos remain on your device)
Use facial recognition or biometric data

You can revoke photo permission at any time in your device's Settings app.

5. Data Storage and Security

All writing data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, protected by your device's built-in security features including:

Device encryption (enabled by default on iOS)
App sandboxing (other apps cannot access Faithpen's data)
Biometric/passcode protection on your device

When data is transmitted to the AI service for assistance, it is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections through Google's Firebase AI Logic SDK, which provides:

TLS encryption in transit
Firebase App Check for request authentication
No persistent storage of your writing content by the AI service

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third parties. Your writing data may only leave your device in these scenarios:

AI Assistance: When you explicitly request AI help (see Section 2.2)
Export/Share: When you choose to export or share your writing using iOS sharing features (AirDrop, email, Messages, etc.) — this is entirely under your control

8. Data Retention

On-device data: Stored until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app
AI-processed data: Not retained by Google's Gemini service after processing your request
Subscription data: Managed by Apple through the App Store — see Apple's privacy policy

Uninstalling Faithpen permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Because your data is stored on your device, you have full control:

Delete writing: Remove any project or entry from within the app at any time
Revoke photo access: Disable photo permission in Settings at any time
Avoid AI processing: Use Faithpen for writing without ever triggering AI assistance, or decline the AI consent screen
Export your data: Export your writing at any time
Delete all data: Uninstall the app to remove all stored data

California Residents (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete your personal information, and to opt-out of the sale of your personal information. Since Faithpen stores data only on your device and we do not collect or sell personal information, these rights are inherently satisfied by our privacy-first architecture.

10. Children's Privacy

Faithpen is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the app does not collect personal information from any user, there is no risk of inadvertent collection from minors.

11. International Users

When you use AI assistance features, your writing data may be processed by Google's servers, which may be located outside your country of residence. Google's data processing practices are governed by their privacy policy and applicable data protection agreements.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
