What the Badge Color Means

๐ŸŸข Easy DIY โ€” anyone can do this. Basic tools (wrench, screwdriver, plunger). 15โ€“60 minutes.
๐ŸŸก Intermediate DIY โ€” comfortable with basic tools and a couple of YouTube searches. 1โ€“3 hours.
๐ŸŸ  Advanced DIY โ€” experienced with power tools, basic plumbing or electrical. Half-day to full-day project.
๐Ÿ”ด Call a Pro โ€” needs a licensed contractor. FixMynd will generate the verbatim text to send to your plumber, electrician, or contractor.

The badge is guidance, not a promise. Anytime the work involves gas lines, the main electrical panel, structural repair, or roofing above a step ladder โ€” call a pro, regardless of badge color.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does AI repair diagnosis work?

Open the Camera tab, snap a photo of the problem (or pick a photo from your library), optionally type a one-line description ("water dripping for 2 days," "smells like burning when I run it"), and tap Analyze. FixMynd sends the photo, your description, and the category override (if you used Re-analyze) to Google's Gemini AI service. Gemini returns a Fix Report with a DIY-vs-Pro badge, plain-English diagnosis, materials and tools, step-by-step instructions, and (for Call-a-Pro jobs) the verbatim text to send to a contractor. Your name and location are never sent.

Is FixMynd a substitute for a licensed contractor?

No. FixMynd is an organizational tool that helps you understand the issue and prepare to either repair it yourself or hire a pro. The diagnoses and DIY-vs-Pro recommendations are not a guarantee of outcome. FixMynd does not replace a hands-on inspection by a qualified plumber, electrician, HVAC technician, or general contractor. Always consult a licensed pro for any work involving gas lines, the electrical panel, structural elements, roofing above a step ladder, or anything you are not fully comfortable doing yourself.

What's the free tier limit?

Free users get 3 AI diagnoses per calendar month. The counter resets at the start of each month. The History tab is unlimited for both Free and Pro users โ€” once a diagnosis is generated, you can re-read it as often as you want without using another free diagnosis.

If I get an error mid-analysis, do I lose a free diagnosis?

No. The free-tier counter only decrements when the Fix Report actually renders for you. If the analysis errors out (no internet, AI service unavailable, response truncated) before the Fix Report appears, your diagnosis count is unaffected.

Does re-analyzing with a category override count as another diagnosis?

Yes โ€” for free users. Re-analyzing with an explicit category sends a new request to Gemini, so it counts as 1 of your 3 monthly diagnoses. Pro users get unlimited re-analyses.

How does the "What to tell the contractor" section work?

When the AI's recommendation is "Call a Pro," the Fix Report includes a "What to tell the contractor" section โ€” a copy-paste-ready paragraph you can text or read aloud to a plumber, electrician, or contractor. It includes the suspected component, observable symptoms, when it started (if you mentioned it), and what diagnostics to run. Tap the copy button to copy it to your clipboard, or use the share sheet to text or email it.

The AI got the category wrong. What do I do?

Tap the "Wrong category? Re-analyze as ___" link below the headline on the Fix Report. Pick the correct category from the picker. FixMynd will re-run the analysis with an explicit instruction to apply that category's diagnostic approach, ignoring its initial classification. Note: re-analyzing counts as 1 diagnosis for free users.

How is my data stored? Is it in the cloud?

No cloud. All your diagnoses, photos, descriptions, category overrides, and outcome marks are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Photos are stored in FixMynd's app sandbox. We do not run a server that stores any of your data. FixMynd does not currently sync between iPhone and iPad โ€” each device has its own local store.

Can I use FixMynd without AI?

The History tab works without AI โ€” you can re-read any diagnosis you've already generated. New diagnoses require AI consent, since the diagnosis itself comes from Google's Gemini AI. Toggle "AI Features" off in Settings at any time to revoke consent; toggle it back on to generate new diagnoses again.

How do I save or share a Fix Report?

Tap the Share button on any Fix Report to open the native share sheet โ€” text the report to a friend, email it to your contractor, save it to Files, or print it directly. The "What to tell the contractor" section also has its own copy and share controls so you can send just that paragraph if that's all the contractor needs.

How do I manage my subscription?

Go to your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions to view, change, or cancel your FixMynd Pro subscription. You can also tap "Restore Purchases" in the FixMynd Settings tab to sync your subscription status with Apple.

I purchased Pro but it's not showing up

Open FixMynd, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. This will sync your subscription status with Apple. If the issue persists, contact us below.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Uninstalling FixMynd removes all locally stored data โ€” diagnoses, photos, descriptions, and outcome marks. Because FixMynd does not back data up to a server, this is permanent. We recommend exporting any diagnoses you want to keep (using the Share button on the Fix Report) before uninstalling.
