Effective Date: September 25, 2026
MenuMynd ("we," "our," or "us"), developed by Pearlcity LLC, respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data MenuMynd handles, where it goes, and the choices you have when you use the MenuMynd app for iPhone.
The short version: MenuMynd has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your scanned menus, food passport and taste profile stay on your iPhone, and in your own iCloud only if you turn on iCloud Sync. After you agree, the menu photos you take or choose, and the text you ask about, are sent to Google's Gemini AI service to create the explanations. Google doesn't use your menu photos or MenuMynd's answers to improve its products or train its AI. It keeps them for a limited time only to detect misuse. MenuMynd doesn't send your name, contacts or location.
AI can be wrong. MenuMynd never promises a dish is free of an allergen — always confirm ingredients and allergens with the staff. MenuMynd is not medical advice.
1. What Stays on Your iPhone
MenuMynd stores the following only on your device, using Apple's SwiftData framework. Pearlcity LLC has no server that receives or stores it.
- Saved menus: the explained result of each menu you scan (dish names, explanations, allergen notes and prices as read from the menu), a small thumbnail of the menu photo for your list, and an optional place name you type. The full-size photo is not kept.
- Food passport: dishes you mark as tried, with your stars, notes, cuisine and place name.
- Taste profile: the diet, allergies, dislikes, adventure level and budget you choose to enter. Everything in it is optional.
- Saved cards and phrases: your allergy and diet card and the order phrases you pin, so they work offline.
- Usage counts: how many free scans you have used and how many scans and follow-ups you have used today, so the free tier and the daily limits work. These counts never leave your device except through your own iCloud Sync.
- Settings: your chosen language for results, your AI consent choice and your iCloud Sync choice.
Talk to the Server conversations are kept only while the app is open. They are not saved.
2. What Is Sent to Google's Gemini AI Service
MenuMynd uses Google's Gemini AI service through Google's Firebase AI Logic to read menus and explain dishes. Nothing is sent until you tap "I Agree" on the "Before your first scan" screen, and you can turn AI features off at any time in Settings. When you use an AI feature, MenuMynd sends:
- Menu scans: the menu photo you take or choose (resized, sent once per scan) and the language you want the results in.
- "What should I order?" picks: the list of dishes from that saved menu, as text, and your taste profile: diet, dislikes, allergies and budget. The photo is not sent again.
- Order phrases: the dishes you chose, any changes you typed (for example "not spicy"), the relevant parts of your taste profile, and the languages involved.
- Allergy and diet card: your allergies and diet, and the server's language.
- Talk to the Server: the text of what was said, when Apple's translation can't handle that language pair (for example on iOS 17, for languages Apple doesn't translate, or when you tap "Ask MenuMynd to double-check"), together with the last few turns of the conversation for context. Your voice itself is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition (section 3); MenuMynd does not send audio to Google.
MenuMynd does not send your name, contacts, location, Apple Account details or any account identifier, because MenuMynd has no accounts.
How Google handles this data
Google doesn't use your menu photos or MenuMynd's answers to improve its products or train its AI. It keeps them for a limited time only to detect misuse.
In more detail: MenuMynd uses the Gemini API as a paid service. Under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service ("Paid Services", last updated April 28, 2026), Google does not use prompts (including images) or responses to improve its products, processes them under its data processing terms, and logs them for a limited period solely to detect and prevent violations of its Prohibited Use Policy and for any legally required disclosures. Google may process this data in any country where it or its agents have facilities. Google's handling is also covered by the Google Privacy Policy. Pearlcity LLC does not keep copies of your AI requests or answers on any server.
3. Apple Speech Recognition, Translation and Voices
- Speech recognition (Talk to the Server): the microphone is used only while you hold a talk button. Apple's speech recognition turns the speech into text. When your iPhone can do this on the device for that language, it does; otherwise the audio is processed by Apple's servers under Apple's Privacy Policy. The audio is not sent to Pearlcity LLC or to Google.
- Apple Translation (iOS 18 and later): when your iPhone has the language pair installed, Talk translations are made on your iPhone by Apple's Translation framework.
- Spoken output: dish names, order phrases and translations are spoken by your iPhone's built-in voices, on the device.
- Camera: used only to take the menu photo when you press the shutter. "Choose a photo" uses Apple's photo picker, which gives MenuMynd only the photo you pick.
4. Other Services
Firebase (Google)
MenuMynd uses Firebase Remote Config to receive app settings (such as which AI model to use and the daily limits), Firebase App Check with Apple's App Attest to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of MenuMynd, and Firebase installations, which these services rely on. To do this, Firebase receives technical information such as a random app-installation identifier, the app and operating-system version, device model, language, country setting and time zone. Google uses some of this, not linked to you, to understand how its Firebase software is used. MenuMynd does not include Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics or any advertising software.
Apple StoreKit
Subscriptions (Trip Pass and MenuMynd Pro Yearly), restores and cancellations are handled entirely by Apple. Payment processing is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Pearlcity LLC never sees or stores your payment information.
iCloud Sync (optional, off by default)
If you turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, your saved menus, passport, taste profile, saved cards and usage counts are stored in the private iCloud database of your own Apple Account, so they appear on your other devices. Pearlcity LLC cannot read your private iCloud data.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. MenuMynd does not collect crash data itself.
5. No Tracking, No Advertising
MenuMynd does not track you across apps or websites, does not show ads, does not sell or share your data for advertising, and does not use the advertising identifier.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- Swipe to delete any saved menu or tried dish in the Passport tab.
- Deleting the MenuMynd app removes everything stored on your iPhone.
- If you used iCloud Sync, you can delete MenuMynd's iCloud data in your iPhone's Settings under your name, then iCloud, then Manage Storage.
- Google keeps AI requests and answers only for the limited time described in section 2. Pearlcity LLC does not hold any copy.
7. Your Choices
- AI features: turn "AI menu features" off in MenuMynd's Settings at any time. Nothing more is sent to Google; your saved menus and saved cards still open.
- Permissions: camera, microphone and speech recognition can be turned off at any time in your iPhone's Settings. "Choose a photo" and typing in Talk keep working.
- Questions or requests: email appfactory1970@gmail.com.
8. Allergens and AI
MenuMynd uses AI to read menus and can be wrong. It can misread a dish, miss an ingredient, or mistranslate what someone says. Allergen notes show what a dish contains or may contain as far as the AI can tell from the menu; MenuMynd never promises that a dish is free of an allergen, and it cannot know about cross-contact in a kitchen. Always confirm ingredients and allergens with the staff. MenuMynd is not medical advice. If you have a severe allergy, follow your doctor's advice and carry your usual medication.
9. Children's Privacy
MenuMynd is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the effective date at the top.
