Frequently Asked Questions

How does AI symptom triage work?

Pick a pet, describe your pet's symptoms in your own words, optionally attach a photo of the visible issue (a wound, a rash, a swollen area), and submit. PetCents sends the symptoms, photo, and your pet's species/breed/age/weight context to Google's Gemini AI service. Gemini returns a structured summary, an urgency level (routine / call vet / emergency), and a printable Vet Visit Prep Sheet you can show your vet. Your pet's name and your location are never sent.

Is PetCents a diagnostic tool?

No. PetCents is an organizational tool that helps you prepare for a vet visit. The summaries and urgency level indicators are not a diagnosis. PetCents does not replace a clinical examination by a licensed veterinarian. Always consult your vet for medical decisions.

What does the urgency level mean?

The urgency level is a non-binding suggestion from the AI to help you prioritize. Routine means the symptoms can typically wait for a regular checkup. Call vet means we suggest contacting your vet within the next 24โ€“48 hours. Emergency means we strongly suggest contacting a vet or emergency vet clinic immediately. These are guidance only โ€” your pet's symptoms may warrant different timing than the AI suggests. When in doubt, call your vet.

What's the free tier limit?

Free users get 3 AI symptom triage sessions per month. The counter resets at the start of each calendar month. Free users can also track vaccinations, medications, breed tips, and monthly check-ins for one pet (the first pet you added). Pro users get unlimited triage sessions and full schedule / tips / check-ins for every pet in their household.

If I cancel a triage at the review screen, do I lose a free triage?

No. The free-tier counter only decrements when you reach the Vet Visit Prep Sheet screen. If you cancel from the review screen โ€” for any reason โ€” your triage count is unaffected.

How do vaccination and medication reminders work?

Add a vaccination with a "next due" date, or a medication with a frequency (once/twice/thrice daily, weekly, monthly), and PetCents schedules local push notifications on iOS so you don't miss a dose or a booster. Notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device by Apple's UserNotifications framework โ€” no server is involved, and they work offline. PetCents on macOS does not currently fire local push notifications; the Schedule view still shows what's coming up. Local push on macOS is on the roadmap for a future update.

How is my data stored? Is it in the cloud?

No cloud. All your pet profiles, health log entries, vaccinations, medications, triage sessions, monthly check-ins, and breed-tip caches are stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Pet photos and symptom photos are stored in PetCents's app sandbox. We do not run a server that stores any of your data. PetCents does not currently sync between iPhone, iPad, and Mac โ€” each device has its own local store.

Can I use PetCents without AI?

Yes. Toggle "AI Features" off in Settings if you'd like to disable AI features entirely. You can still track pets, log health entries, schedule vaccinations and medications, and receive reminders. AI symptom triage, breed-specific tips, and monthly check-in summaries require AI consent.

How do I save the Vet Visit Prep Sheet?

After a triage session, tap "Save & Share" on the Vet Visit Prep Sheet. On iPhone or iPad, the share sheet opens โ€” AirDrop to a desktop, email it to your accountant or vet, save to Files, or print directly. On Mac, a save dialog opens โ€” pick a destination on your computer and save the PDF.

How do I manage my subscription?

Go to your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions to view, change, or cancel your PetCents Pro subscription. You can also tap "Restore Purchases" in the PetCents Settings tab to sync your subscription status with Apple.

I purchased Pro but it's not showing up

Open PetCents, go to Settings, and tap Restore Purchases. This will sync your subscription status with Apple. If the issue persists, contact us below.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

Uninstalling PetCents removes all locally stored data โ€” pets, health log, vaccinations, medications, triage sessions, monthly check-ins, breed-tip cache, and any pet or symptom photos. Because PetCents does not back data up to a server, this is permanent. We recommend exporting Vet Visit Prep Sheets before uninstalling if you want copies.
